Director of Development

Base rate: Salary, $60,000 - $62,000 
Status: Full-time, Regular, Exempt

General Overview
North Valley Food Bank (NVFB) builds food security and strengthens communities in NW Montana through holistic food access services, including a choice-model grocery store in Whitefish, several mobile pantries in neighboring rural communities, rural pantry deliveries, and a variety of community kitchen programs, including culinary education and food processing. 

The Director of Development reports directly to the Executive Director and is a key member of the organization’s leadership, serving as a lead relationship builder, fundraising strategist, solicitor, and community ambassador. This individual is responsible for designing and implementing short-and long-term strategic fundraising initiatives in collaboration with the Executive Director as well as the organization’s staff and board. The Director of Development position requires a highly autonomous and high-performing individual that provides fundraising leadership to staff, the Board of Directors and the Development Committee.

Core Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the annual fundraising plan, including the launch of a new planned giving campaign
  • Execute a year-round donor experience that’s systematic, but feels personal, and is appropriate for each giving level and category
  • Manage a portfolio of annual giving, major gift, and special campaign prospects 
  • Identify and cultivate individual, corporate, and foundation prospects, soliciting support independently and in collaboration with the Executive Director and members of the Board
  • Serve as a liaison to the Board of Directors and Development Committee, providing direction and support for individual members’ fundraising activities
  • Manage grant portfolio, including research of new grant opportunities, grant writing, and grant reporting in collaboration with the Executive Director
  • Understand and communicate the mission and needs of NVFB through print, electronic, and social media platforms to a variety of constituents with support from the Community Outreach Coordinator
  • Serve as a community ambassador for NVFB, bringing awareness to the issue of food insecurity and its community impact
  • With the management team, provide leadership in implementing NVFB’s strategic plan as approved by Board of Directors 
  • Ensure donor CRM optimization (Bloomerang) and data integrity led by the Database Coordinator
  • Support planning of special events and fundraisers
  • Uphold NVFB’s mission, vision, and values
  • Work collaboratively with the Operations team to support on-the-floor operational needs during holidays, staff shortages and special events
  • Perform other duties or special projects as directed

Qualifications

  • Passion for the mission of North Valley Food Bank
  • 5+ years of demonstrated fundraising success and 3+ years in a supervisory or managerial role
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals in a compassionate manner; recognition of diversity in gender, race, culture, and other differences, actively seeking to understand new perspectives in support of a healthy and vibrant organization
  • Exemplary written and oral communication skills 
  • Collaborative, creative, flexible, highly organized, and detail-oriented
  • Familiarity with donor management systems

Expected Work Schedule/Location
This is a full-time position with a core schedule Monday - Friday, generally between the hours of 7AM and 6PM with some variation for special events. The position will work on-site at North Valley Food Bank in Whitefish with the flexibility to work from home for one day per week.
